Den Blå Planet
Dive under the sea surface with the new app for Den Blå Planet
The challenge
Den Blå Planet wanted to develop an app that could inform the guests about the latest activities, news, and practical information, in an intuitive and eventful way. They also wanted an app that could lead the guests under the sea surface and give them information about the varied wildlife that exists in the aquariums many pools.
The app should approach both children and adults and make the experience in the aquarium more complete, where entertaining games, crazy facts, and beautiful visual elements should be the foundation of the Den Blå Planet app. The app should also take the audience behind the scenes of the aquarium to meet the zookeepers, the researchers, the architects, and the biologists through well-done video material.
The solution
The solution became a native app that can be downloaded for both iPhone and Android, and it contains an ocean of possibilities for the guests. The app makes the guests wiser at the exciting world of the sea through fun and learning.
As the first thing when opening the app, you will meet Hammerhead Hik who is the guests' personal guide of the aquarium. By scanning the codes placed around the aquarium, Hammerhead Hik will appear and invite the guests to tasks and important information. On the guided tour you will meet a bunch of other underwater animals where you can race with a herring and compare your teeth with a Pacu. The app uses AR to give the guest experience of some of the senses that a fish has – for example, the sharks’ electrical senses.
The guide is visually very appealing where great animations increase the amount of entertainment for both young and old people.
Back in 2013, Den Blå Planet app was nominated for the Danish App Award – both for the technology and design of the app. It has been downloaded more than 58.000 times in App Store and Google Play.
